The main difference between 35mm and 120 film is the size of the actual film. Large format is incredible and also still widely practiced, but it’s a whole other animal, so I won’t get into it in this article. Though a number of other film formats exist, over the years 35mm and 120 (aka medium format film and definitely not 120 mm!) have evolved to be the most common and user friendly. What is the difference between 35mm and 120 film? Part of why I think film continues to gain popularity is that a beginner photographer, so long as they understand basic principles of exposure and composition, can take a great photo without needing editing programs or even a computer for that matter.
